Born on January 5, 1982 in Torrance, California, Nick spent most of his childhood in Hawai'i and considers himself an island boy. There he learned how to climb trees, swim like a fish and make spam musubi -- all which he still loves to do today. At 14, he was uprooted and moved mainland to Victorville in the high desert of Southern California.
Having lived through two divorces as a child, Nick learned early how to be independent and support himself through hard times. He took the initiative to pay his own way through college and graduated class of 2004 from UC Riverside majoring in Sociology/Business Administration with a minor in Political Science. In college he thrived as a student leader - a Resident Advisor in the dorms, staff at Asian Pacific Student Programs, and a member of Alphi Phi Omega service fraternity.
After college, Nick moved to San Francisco where he could live openly and proudly. There he would find a place that accepted people of all backgrounds and people of like minds and interests. He dived into his passions (like music, video, and travel), became a creative entrepreneur, built a strong community of friends, and found the love of his life. He has called San Francisco home for over 10 years now.
Nick's love for life is infectious. He works hard to be able to enjoy those moments that take your breath away. You can find him dancing away at a music festival, zipping over San Francisco hills on his Vespa, getting misty-eyed watching romantic movies or traveling the globe with his partner, Bryant. He's an avid believer in "the more the merrier," always extending the invitation to join his life adventure to all.
Nick's generosity is limitless. He embodies the value of gifting with no expectation of return. He is often the first to volunteer to help his friends -- whether it's to cook a meal for them, root for them in marathons, give away his belongings, take their dogs on walks or helping them plan their weddings. He always finds time to help those in need, to connect with old friends and to surprise those he loves with gifts.
Nick's spirit is burning. Having attended Burning Man every year since 2009, his spirit is lifted and rejuvenated by the event and the community. The experience transformed his life and gave him a place to revel in many of the things he loves in life -- kind and open people, laughter and silliness, dancing and singing, art and creativity and a deep sense of spirituality.
Nick met Bryant in 2005 in San Francisco. After years of friendship, they became a couple in 2009 and were married July 2017. Here is the highlight video of their amazing wedding day in Calistoga.
Each year since attending Burning Man in 2009, Nick has created a "My Playa Adventure" video to document his experience. His first video went viral within weeks and each year he's produced equally inspiring ones. They capture the beauty, joy, whimsy, fun, and connection that makes Burning Man so special. Through his videos, Nick has inspired hundreds of people to discover Burning Man—an impact returned with many gratitudes and appreciations from people around the world.
With encouragement from fans and friends, Nick quit his corporate job and traded it in for a camera. What started off as a hobby, turned into a self-run business. Nick used his talent to capture one of life’s happiest moments: weddings. Nick used his creativity and entrepreneurial smarts to establish Less Than 3 Productions or <3 Productions, which has blossomed into an award-winning company. Couples seek out Nick around the Bay Area and world to film and tell the stories of their love.
Nick's keen eye, impeccable music taste, and sensitivity to people's emotions are incomparable. It is what him so good at what he does... what makes him the beautiful soul that he is.
For his 30th birthday in 2012, Bryant and Nick's friends got together to show how much they love him with a surprise birthday and a video of some funny video moments.
